On a cling film rewinder with a large width and roll diameter and a very high rewinding speed, the new cling film roll must be driven first to make its surface speed the same as that of the old roll to ensure reliable non-stop replacement.

Surface drive is a widely used method, that is, a rotating belt presses on the surface of the new wrap to accelerate it. The belt is mechanically driven; the entire belt mechanism can be driven by a hydraulic or pneumatic mechanism and pressed against the surface of the new plastic wrap. In order to smoothly accelerate the new plastic wrap, a pneumatic clutch is often used to gradually increase the pressure between the belt and the surface of the new wrap.
