Italy is the first country in Europe with a large-scale outbreak. At present, the total number of confirmed cases has exceeded 160000. Many industries have been hit by the epidemic, especially the fashion industry. According to ccinsight, a commercial consumption data platform owned by emarsys, a marketing solution provider, as of February 2 this year, the sales of Italian fashion e-commerce (specifically pure e-commerce that does not involve physical business) for 14 rolling days increased by 41% compared with the same period last year, but by March 29, the sales of 14 rolling days decreased by 17% compared with the same period last year.

However, affected by the epidemic and the blockade and isolation, Italian entity fashion retailers (referring to the former main business as the entity retail business) began to make efforts in online channels: as of January 12 this year, the e-commerce sales of Italian entity fashion retailers rolling for 14 days decreased by 32% year-on-year, but by April 12, the e-commerce sales of Italian entity fashion retailers rolling for 14 days increased by 1% year-on-year 16%.
This is undoubtedly good news for Italy's fashion industry and even for Italy's overall economy. According to prometeia, a well-known Italian consulting company, in 2018, Italian fashion industry accounted for 1.2% of Italy's GDP, which is one of the most influential industries in the world. The proportion of overseas sales reached 72.2%, far higher than the average level of Italian manufacturing industry (58.3%), and the number of employees reached 366000.
However, the situation of Italian fashion industry is still grim. After April 9, the sales growth of Italian fashion e-commerce began to slow down. As of April 12, the sales of Italian fashion e-commerce for 14 days increased by only 1% over the same period of last year, and the sales of Italian fashion e-commerce for 14 days decreased by 8% over the same period of last year.

In addition to the fashion industry, Italy's furniture industry has also been hit by the epidemic. On April 8 this year, the CEOs or general managers of nine Italian high-end interior design and furniture brands jointly signed a petition for resumption of work called "design doesn't give up", asking the Italian government to lift the blockade and isolation restrictions on April 14, hoping to resume work as soon as possible. But Italian Prime Minister Guiseppe conte (Conte) rejected an application for early return to work and announced a further extension of the blockade until May 3.
