Description:

1, Liangjiang brand – light magnesium carbonate, also called basic magnesium carbonate. Appearance is white monoclinic crystal or amorphous powder. Non-toxic, tasteless, and stable in air. Density ratio is 2.16. slightly soluble in water, aqueous solution present alkalescence. Solubility in water is 0.02%(15℃). Easily soluble in acid and ammonium salt.
2,?Liangjiang brand – light grade magnesium carbonate, mainly used as medical intermediate, antacid, color fixative, carrier, anticaking agent; food filler, magnesium compensator; also can be used as filler and fortifier for rubber products, heat resisting fireproofing material. It is widely used in many industries, electric wire, magnesium salt, pigments, paints, daily cosmetics, shipbuilding, boiler producing, sports etc.

Manufacture process of MgCO3, is different based on different route of raw materials. The process is divided into 4 kinds, brine carbonization method, magnesite carbonate method, Asbestos tailings carbonization method, bicarbonate method.

?

1. fundamental of brine carbonization method

?

This method takes brine, seawater and other magnesium chloride solution, magnesium sulfate solution as materials, calcined with dolomite or limestone to produce CO2, dolomite lime or lime, and then digesting, carbonization, pyrolysis to get light grade magnesium carbonate.

Dolomite or limestone, after being calcined, watered, and reacted with brine, to get precipitated magnesium hydroxide. And then through carbonization, pyrolysis, washing, dehydration, dry, and smashing, then get finished magnesium carbonate products. The equations as follow:

Calcining dolomite? MgCO3·CaCO3→MgO·CaO+2?CO2↑

Or calcining limestone: CaCO3→CaO+2?CO2↑

Digestion: MgO·CaO+2?H2O→Mg(OH)2+Ca(OH)2

Precipitate: MgCl2+Ca(OH)2→Mg(OH)2+CaCl2

Carbonization: ?Mg(OH)2+?2?CO2→Mg(HCO3)2

Pyrolysis Mg(HCO3)2→4?MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·4H2O+6?CO2↑

Dolmitic lime in this method, can improve producing capacity of light magnesium carbonate, and reduce content of CaCL2, CaSO4 and other spinoff.

2,?Producing magnesium carbonate through magnesite carbonization method

?

Put magnesite ( particle size 100-300mm ) and anthracite (calorific value 20000-25000 KJ/KG ) into calcining kiln in proportion (7-10):1.? Control the temperature at 200-250 degree during pre-heating period, 700-800 degree during calcined period, 100-150 degree during refrigerstion period. Release the kiln gas out from kiln crown, CO2 concentration more than 28%. Get Light burned magnesia from kiln bottom. Smashed magnesia reacts with water to get Mg(OH)2, then carbonation reaction with CO2 to get magnesium bicarbonate. Then trough settling, separating, pyrolysis, filter to get light magnesium carbonate. The chemical equations as follow:

calcine? MgCO3→MgO+CO2↑

digestion? MgO+?H2O→Mg(OH)2

carbonization Mg(OH)2+2CO2→Mg(HCO3)2

pyrolysis 5Mg(HCO3)2→4MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·4?H2O+6?CO2↑

The process of getting magnesium compound in this method is same as dolomite carbonation. Because of lower Calcium content in magnesite, it needn’t set recycle system of CaCO3 which contains magnesium, and also lower calcium content in finished product magnesium carbonate, so quality is better, cost is lower, more competitive. It is a new technology, need to be paid more attention by factories.

3,?Asbestos tailings?carbonization method

?

Chemical component in asbestos tailings is similar to dolomite. Different proportion of calcium and magnesium in different tailings. In some tailings, MgO≦20%,CaO≦29% but SiO2≧20%, LOI≦30%. So should clear way solution in HCL when take this method to produce magnesium carbonate. Energy consumption of unit product is higher than dolomite carbonization method. The chemical equations as follow:

Calcining dolomite?? MgCO3·CaCO3→MgO·CaO+2?CO2↑

Digestion??? MgO·CaO+2?H2O→Mg(OH)2+Ca(OH)2

Carbonization Mg(OH)2+?Ca(OH)2+3?CO2→Mg(HCO3)2+?CaCO3↓+?H2O

According to different applications of magnesium carbonate, it can be divided into industry grade MgCO3, food grade MgCO3, medical grade MgCO3, transparent MgCO3, electrical grade MgCO3, bulk MgCO3 and aciculiform MgCO3 etc.

Light magnesium carbonate is widely used in many fields. In pigments, paints and printing ink industries, MgCO3 can be used to produce high purity magnesium compound. MgCO3 also be used in fireproofing, extinguishant, floor and insulating material industries. In plastic and rubber industries, MgCO3 is used as filler and smoke inhibitor. In addition, in glass, ceramics and chemical medicine producing, MgCO3 also can be used in little. CPU grade MgCO3 can be used as salt additive, antacid in toothpaste and biscuits.

Medical grade magnesium carbonate can be used as antiacid. Antiacid is used for hyperacidity and duodenal ulcer in clinic. Because of small volume, it is suit for compounding powder.

In food industries, it is used for flour ameliorant, and content reaches 10%-15%, for improve dispersibility and mobility. In addition, it also can used in producing magnesium salt, magnesium oxide, fireproofing material, rubber, ceramics, glass, cosmetic, toothpaste, and pigments etc.

Food grade magnesium carbonate mainly used for flour ameliorant. In formula of flour ameliorant, magnesium carbonate is very important auxiliary parts. It’s mainly is to improve dispersibility and mobility. MgCO3 content in flour ameliorant is about 10%-15%. In order to get better mobility, MgO content should be about 40% - 43%, moisture should be less than 1%, specific volume should around 1.4-2.5 ml/g. Electronic grade magnesium carbonate is used as materials for electronic components.
